I have been searching for a new case since the day I bought the iPad2 Otterbox Defender case. Don’t get me wrong here, Otterbox makes a great case, I used it on my phone before I got the Lifeproof case, and they make great dry boxes, but lately their product seems to be going down hill. I was not a fan of their iPhone 4 case, way disappointed compared to the iPhone3/3G case. MUCH less durable, I can’t count the amount of times they replace my iPhone 4 defender case. Finally, one day I stumbled upon the Lifeproof case and my life was complete! I didn’t care much for the price tag, but was getting tired of the broken Otterbox cases, so I switched and am SO glad I did!
As for the iPad2 case, I like it but it has turned out to be a disappointment too. It feels cheap and also keeps breaking. I am not destructive with my stuff, especially something that pricy, but the little abuse it does take, this case can’t seem to hold up. Since this case has aggravated me more lately, I started shopping around for a new one. When looking at Best Buy one day I came across the Survivor case (seen below). It looked like an extremely durable case and seemed to have good reviews so I picked one up this evening and decided to try to out. My iPad spent a total of one minute, maybe two, in the case before I removed it and packed it back up to be returned. This case was a major disappointment!
This case is designed to be very durable, I like that! In fact, that is the reason behind me buying it, I love the durability of it, but that’s where my liking stops. Once in the case, there was a sort of gap between the screen on this case and the screen of my iPad because I had to push really hard to operate the touch screen and could feel the gap between the two. I would like to also mention that EVERY port on here is covered! So, if you want to use the camera, you have to open that by pulling back the rubber protector. You want to use the mic? Well you have to uncover that too. You want to use the speaker? Yep, you have to uncover that too. So, basically if anyone tried to facetime me or message me on here, I would not be able to hear it because the sound does not magically come through the thick rubber cover that goes over the speakers. Not a fan of any of this. And last, the weight, it adds a lot of it! Doesn’t seem like it would when you are holding just the case, but that rubber stuff is thick, meaning it’s heavy.
Since I can’t seem to find a case I like, it’s back to shopping around for me. I had thought about trying a case with a keyboard built in, but that’s one more thing I’d have to keep charged. I guess it’s back to the Otterbox case for now until Lifeproof finally comes out with their iPad case! Hurry up guys!
